Joining DASA

Which Association is dedicated to the needs of independent electrical and electronics service organisations?

Which Association has a nationally registered Code of Practice for ‘white’ and ‘brown’ goods servicing by small private organisations?

Which Association represents independent service organisations in the National Bodies that have developed the NVQ’s?

The answer to all these questions is DASA.

So what is DASA?

DASA is the only National Association of independent organisations that service domestic electrical and electronic consumer products. It was formed in 1978 and is growing steadily. DASA members receive work from manufacturers, insurance companies and servicing networks.

DASA has put the independent servicing trade on the map. Membership embraces small and major appliances, gas and electric. DASA is not allied to any particular manufacturer or to any other domestic appliance organisations. The Association is a member of the British Quality Foundation. Membership is open to Companies, Partnerships and Individuals.

What is DASA’s purpose?

The Association aims to promote good service, efficiency and courtesy to all members of the public. The members of DASA have a Code of Practice that is designed to protect the customer from bad trade practices. The DASA Code of Practice is registered with the Office of Fair Trading. DASA has Criteria for Service Quality, Guarantees, the Environment, Insurances, Competence and Safety Testing.

DASA members are provided with information so that they are equipped to give Quality Service. DASA encourages communication between independent service organisations, consults them on National Issues and represents their interests within the trade and in the world outside it. The Association is both an exclusive club and a bona fide National Trade Association.

How are the good standards maintained?

There is a vetting procedure through which all applicants must pass. DASA only wants quality firms that can demonstrate compliance with its Code of Practice and Quality Criteria. Normally, applicants have had to be trading for three years but this is reduced to two years where a recognised Agency is held. The Council usually accepts organisations whose applications are supported in writing by a manufacturer or an established existing member. Other applications are investigated on an individual basis. The Membership Committee makes the final decision in every case.

There is a grade of Provisional Membership for applicants who are newly established. Manufacturers and other interested organisations may become Associate Members of DASA.

Complaints about members are investigated. Those who do not keep up the standards can be expelled by the Council.
